The red Mac Pro, designed by Apple’s former chief industrial designers Jony Ive and Marc Newson and limited to one unit worldwide, was successfully auctioned off at a Sotheby’s charity auction on November 15, with a final price of $977,000 (about RMB 6.907 million).

Sotheby’s Charity Auction has this to say about the Mac Pro:

“The most powerful and radical Mac ever designed by Apple, this Mac Pro features an innovative architecture, a unified cooling core, dual workstation graphics and the latest Xeon processors, ultra-fast flash storage and incredibly high-performance I/O.”

Apple’s precision craftsmanship combines all of these advances into an extraordinary “trash can” form factor that measures just 9.9 inches tall and 6.6 inches in diameter. This one-of-a-kind model, made of red anodized aluminum, was created specifically for the (RED) auction.

Sotheby’s auction house has not released clear information about the specifications of this Mac Pro, although it clearly states that it uses Intel Xeon processors.

The 2013 Mac Pro has two configurations: 4-core and 12-core, so overall performance will vary. Given the $1 million price tag for this red Mac Pro, it should be the most valuable piece of computer hardware in the last 10 years.
