Microsoft officially announced that Microsoft Teams Free Edition (Classic) will no longer be available after April 12, 2023, Microsoft Teams Free Edition (Classic) is the old free commercial version of the Teams application. Until April 12, 2023, users will be able to view and export files. After this date, users will lose access to Teams Free Edition (Classic) and the associated data will be deleted.

Microsoft says that after April 12, 2023, users will no longer have access to their current Teams Free Edition (Classic) account, but will be able to sign up for the new Teams Free Edition. the paid option for Teams is to purchase Microsoft 365 to continue using all the features currently accessible. For organizations with more than 300 members, Microsoft recommends upgrading to Microsoft Office 365 E1.

Users can switch to Microsoft Teams (free version) or sign up for the newer free option Microsoft Teams (free version) if they wish to continue using the free version of Teams. However, if users want to keep their existing files, they must save them manually and transfer them to their new free account. The new Microsoft Teams (free version) includes unlimited group chat meetings of up to 60 minutes. The maximum number of people per meeting is 100. 5GB of cloud storage per user.

Users can also upgrade to get Teams as well as production work applications like Word and Excel. Upgrading to Microsoft 365 Business Foundation will allow users to continue using Teams, maintain access to chat, files, teams and meetings and enjoy all the features included in the free version of Teams, plus: up to 30 hours of unlimited group chat meetings, up to 300 people per meeting, team meeting recordings (with transcribed files), web and mobile versions Microsoft 365 applications, 1 TB of cloud storage per user, enterprise-grade email, standard security, and phone and web support at all times.
