Microsoft may launch a thin client PC: Windows 365 cloud PC service, cheap but with ads

Microsoft may be considering a new low-cost PC powered by Windows 365 cloud computing and advertising in the future, according to a job listing found by foreign media outlet ZDNet.

According to Microsoft’s chief software engineering manager job listing, the company is looking for people who can help “set a new direction for the Windows experience and business model. The list also mentions “low-cost PCs powered by ads and subscriptions” and “new direct cloud hardware devices that span work and life.

Interestingly, Microsoft’s job listings mention several products by name, including Windows 365 and the newly formed Windows incubation team. Microsoft specifically mentioned that the work their team is doing will “lead the next wave of cloud innovation for Windows, from defining a new hybrid application model that can scale from local to cloud computing”.

Based on this series of job postings, it appears that Microsoft is considering launching a thin client-like device. A thin client (thin client) is a computing dumb terminal in a client-server network architecture that essentially eliminates the need for applications. The thin client will send its mouse, keyboard and other input to the server for processing, and then the server will process the results back to the thin client display, different thin clients can log on to the server at the same time, simulating a mutually independent and on the server work environment.

The thin client only needs a very low hardware price to be able to achieve the cloud office, with Microsoft Windows 365 is indeed a good choice, we can look forward to.

Microsoft announced Windows 365, a service that allows businesses to securely stream the full Windows experience, with the operating system hosted on the Microsoft cloud. Employees don’t need special hardware, just sign up for the program to take advantage of a personalized Windows experience.

Windows 365 apps are supported by all Windows 11 devices, providing a direct path to the cloud computer from the taskbar or Start menu. Enjoy the full Windows 11 experience when moving between your local and cloud computers, ranging from $20 to $162.
