Do you still remember the most classic Windows widget (Desktop Widget) panel nailed to the desktop? I believe users who have used Windows Vista and Win7 will be very impressed.

According to a document seen by Windows Latest, Microsoft plans to reproduce the desktop gadgets of the year on Windows 11, and some components, including third-party components, can be pinned to the desktop.

Unlike the widgets that have been launched before, these widgets can be fixed on the screen and have limited functions, such as the most commonly used weather, news, etc.

Microsoft is already improving the way tweak widgets work and look on Windows 11. With the upcoming Windows 11 update, Microsoft will also introduce a gadget-like widget, and Microsoft is already working with developers to support more desktop widgets.

According to reports, like existing widgets, these widgets that can be fixed on the desktop are also based on web programs and can be implemented through Microsoft Store updates on Windows 11. These third-party widgets are powered by the Adaptive Cards platform, which uses Microsoft’s Chromium web technology as a companion experience for Win32 and PWA applications.

Of course, Microsoft didn’t cancel the “Widgets Panel” on Windows 11, it just allowed users to pin it to the desktop. If you unpin it from the desktop, it’s still available to Windows via the widgets panel, it just doesn’t pin the “shortcut” to the desktop. In a way, the functionality is similar to the interactive widgets on your iPhone, iPad or Android phone/tablet.

Microsoft will hold a special event on Windows widgets at the Build 2023 Developer Conference, and more relevant information may be announced at that time.
