Microsoft Edge browser toolbar will add annoying content recommendation button, mouse hover to open

While most of the recent news about Edge has been positive, Microsoft is about to bring arguably one of the worst changes ever to its browser.

Edge beta users of the Dev and Canary channels noticed that a new button was added to the upper right corner of the browser toolbar. This feature is called “Discovery”, which is Microsoft’s mandatory recommendation in Edge. A new attempt, but this has caused many users to complain. First, the button is located where menu buttons used to be, making it easy for users who are trying to open or close browser menus to accidentally click it.

Plus, Microsoft Edge itself is a minimal-looking browser, with icons that are so simple that they don’t cause unnecessary distractions. But the “Discover” button has a bright purple icon that stands out and distracts users, and it’s the only button that can’t be rearranged or removed from the toolbar.

Most annoyingly, the “Discover” button opens on hover, no click is required. Microsoft previously made News and Interest (Windows 10) and Windows Gadgets (Windows 11) open on hover, but a ton of negative feedback from users forced Microsoft to rethink its choice and added the option to open gadgets on click. But it now appears that the company has not learned its lesson.
