Microsoft Edge browser extension store will add badge feature: helps find high-quality extensions

Like most mainstream browsers, Microsoft Edge browser also has its extension store, and users can download various extensions to extend the functionality of the browser. According to Microsoft, the Edge extension store already has nearly 11,000 extensions. How to make it easy for users to find excellent extensions is one of Microsoft’s considerations, and they plan to achieve this goal through the “Extension Tab”.

In a recent community post, Microsoft announced an upcoming experiment to mark high-quality extensions with a “badge.”

Microsoft isn’t ready to roll out badges globally just yet, and the company wants to do small experiments first. Microsoft also plans to work with the developer community to sort out the criteria for earning a badge for a particular extension and help developers become familiar with the badge process.

Google launched a similar project on its Chrome Web Store a few months ago, and the extension marketplace now offers verified developers a “checkmark” mark (no need to pay an $8 / monthly fee) and a “Featured” tab for extensions that follow Chrome’s recommended practices for extensions (see image above).
