Microsoft admits CPU is too advanced to make Win11 data corruption, then releases patch to cause performance degradation

0

Aug. 9 – Microsoft has published a serious bug in Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 on its official website, indicating that users of its latest desktop operating systems may experience data corruption issues.

Microsoft says the affected systems are equipped with processors that support the latest Vector Advanced Encryption Standard (VAES) instruction set, specifically Intel Core 10 (Ice Lake) and above and third-generation Xeon Scalable processors (IceLake-SP), as well as AMD Zen 4 architecture processors.

Microsoft has released a patch that has addressed this issue in the May 24, 2022 preview and June 14, 2022 security patch for Windows 11. However, this patch is not very perfect, and after applying these updates, AES-based operations such as BitLocker, TLS, and disk throughput in the system may be half as fast as before.

Users will then need to update further to the June 23, 2022 preview or the July 12, 2022 security patch to fully resolve the performance issue.
