Facebook parent company Meta will pay BuzzFeed millions of dollars to attract more creators to the social media giant’s platform, according to people familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal reported.

As part of a deal worth nearly $10 million (currently about 67.8 million CNY) struck last year, BuzzFeed agreed to help generate creator content for Meta’s platform and train creators to expand their reach online, people familiar with the matter said.

BuzzFeed, which has an early reputation for “viral” pop-up content like lists and quizzes, is helping creators understand what content resonates widely, according to the company.

BuzzFeed’s business is built heavily on content that goes viral on Facebook, according to the U.S. media, and the partnership marks a new look for the two companies.
