Mercedes-Benz to use Unity technology to create in-car infotainment system

According to the official Unity platform, Mercedes-Benz is using Unity technology to build its new operating system for in-car infotainment, and the new system will gradually cover all Mercedes-Benz models, with the first Mercedes-Benz car equipped with the system hitting the road in 2024.

The Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), which consists of four main components: powertrain, autonomous driving, infotainment, and human comfort systems, will connect the car, the cloud, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Scheduled to debut in 2024, MB.OS can now be seen in the Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX electric car prototype, which will showcase a new way of designing UI / UX in Unity.

After working closely with Unity to create real-time 3D experiences in automotive prototyping studies, Mercedes-Benz is further using Unity technology to create infotainment systems for all Mercedes-Benz Group product lines. Mercedes-Benz designers will use the complex 3D product visualization package Unity Industrial Collection to produce user interface and user experience designs for the entire digital cockpit, including the instrument panel, infotainment and passenger displays.

Officials say Unity will deliver an intuitive and engaging experience — including a 3D “digital butler,” 3D navigation maps, an AR driving experience, and an AI that adjusts vehicle settings based on user preferences.
