Mercedes-Benz responds to recent rumors: It has never given up on electrification

It was reported in late February that Mercedes-Benz announced its full-year financial report for 2023. Mercedes-Benz had stated that it would abandon its plan to “achieve full electrification by 2030” ( Provided that market conditions permit), it will continue to produce fuel vehicles to “meet different customer needs before 2035.”

Since then, the news was interpreted by the media as “Mercedes-Benz abandoning its (fully) electric vehicle plan” and triggered heated discussions from all walks of life. Mercedes-Benz officially responded to Chedi today that Mercedes-Benz is still firmly promoting transformation-related measures. “Mercedes-Benz’s firm determination for electrification transformation remains unchanged; it is expected that by 2030 By 2020, new energy models will account for up to 50% of Mercedes-Benz’s new car sales; in China, Mercedes-Benz will continue to promote electrification transformation and bring customers a rich selection of luxury products.”

At last month’s shareholders’ meeting, Kallenius, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, stated that the company has adjusted its previously set goals and no longer plans to fully expand its presence in major markets by 2030. The reason behind the switch to electric vehicle sales is that the popularity of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles “has not reached expectations.”

The goal of “accounting for up to 50%” was first proposed in July 2021, and the official timetable set at that time was to be achieved in 2025. Subsequently, according to the plan, Mercedes-Benz will only sell pure electric models by 2030.
