MediaTek today announced the Pentonic 1000 high-end TV chip, supporting a 4K 120Hz HDR display.

MediaTek Pentonic 1000 supports Dolby Vision IQ and can even process multiple Dolby Vision streams in parallel. In addition, the chip allows the TV to display up to 8 video streams simultaneously.

For gaming, the MediaTek Pentonic 1000 supports variable refresh rate inputs up to 4K 144Hz and features an automatic low latency mode (HDMI-defined standard). In addition, the chip can stream games from the cloud via the built-in low-latency Wi-Fi 6/6E connection.

For video decoding, the MediaTek Pentonic 1000 is the first to support the upcoming H.266 format or VVC format. The chip also supports HEVC, VP9, AVS3 and AV1, as well as Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, which are common today.

As for the interface, MediaTek Pentonic 1000 supports HDMI 2.1FRL 48Gbps and up to 4 USB ports.

MediaTek said the first TVs with Pentonic 1000 are expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2023.
