Mageia 9 Alpha desktop Linux operating system ready for testing

Today, Mageia 9 Alpha is available for download. Yes, you can start testing this pre-release Linux-based operating system right away. Mageia’s predecessor dates back as far as 1998 with the Mandrake Linux operating system (later renamed Mandriva and aimed at desktop users), and if you have a 64-bit computer, you can choose from three desktop environments during installation – KDE Plasma, GNOME and Xfce, while 32-bit machines are limited to Xfce.

“We are pleased to announce that test images for Mageia 9 have been released. These are provided to early testers to help develop a stable final version of Mageia 9,” says Filip Komar, Mageia developer. “All packages have A massive update and implement new features while improving what Mageia already offers.

Komar further said: “A new feature has now been added to the Control Center that will allow the removal of old kernels. This feature is automatic by default in Mageia 9 but also allows users to configure and run it manually. With the update of Plasma to 5.25 and Systemd and startup time has also been improved.”
