LG Display (LG Display) today announced the world’s first 12-inch high-resolution stretchable display (Stretchable Display). Officially, the display can be stretched, folded and twisted without deformation or damage.
The new Stretchable Display is described as the industry’s first display to achieve 20% stretchability, 100ppi resolution and full-color RGB. In addition, its high flexibility, durability and reliability maximize its commercialization potential.
Officially, the 12-inch display features a highly flexible, film-type substrate made from a special silicon used in contact lenses that is rubber-band flexible and can stretch up to 14 inches. In addition, the stretchable display uses a micro-LED light source with a pixel pitch of less than 40μm, ensuring a high level of durability as well as high resolution.
For applications, officials say it can be easily attached to curved surfaces such as skin, clothing, furniture, cars and airplanes, expanding the potential of the display in a variety of industries including fashion, wearables, mobile devices and gaming.
