Indian telecoms giant Jio Platforms is expanding its product range with the launch of its first notebook, the JioBook, which is not running Windows or ChromeOS, but rather JioOS, an Android-based system that has been “optimized for superior performance This is not Windows or ChromeOS, but JioOS, an Android-based system that has been “optimized for superior performance” and native language support.

The laptop is made in India and is priced at INR 15,799, or $190, with discounts of up to $60 at certain banks and credit card partners. The company quietly showcased it at the Mobile India Conference trade show last month.

As you might expect, the JioBook’s specs aren’t very high-end. It features an 11.6-inch HD display with a screen resolution of 1366 x 768. It’s powered by a 64-bit, 2GHz octa-core processor from Qualcomm and 2GB of RAM. But the laptop comes with an embedded Jio sim card that supports Jio 4G LTE connectivity right out of the box. The company says on its shop page that the JioBook has up to 128GB of flash memory and can be used for up to 8 hours on a single charge.
