Samsung Display and Intel are developing a “slidable” PC. during Intel’s innovation keynote today, JS Choi, CEO of Samsung Display, appeared on stage and showed off a prototype computer that can stretch from a 13-inch tablet to a 17-inch display.

“We are announcing the world’s first 17-inch slidable PC display,” Choi said.” This device will meet the various demands for larger screens and portability.” Samsung Display, which chose to implement sliding (rather than foldable) technology for its flexible PC displays, also said that currently on PCs “foldable forms will eventually disappear”.

Intel has been experimenting with new PC forms for years, initially preparing for a dual-screen and foldable future before Microsoft abandoned its plans to use Windows 10X on foldable PCs. These types of new form factors desperately need software and apps to work with to make them shine, and it’s unclear how Intel will make slidable PCs a reality.

Samsung Display and Intel are showing off a prototype device today that essentially turns a 13-inch tablet into a 17-inch display with a flexible display and sliding mechanism. Intel also showed off its new Unison software on this display, which is designed to connect Intel-powered computers to smartphones – including iPhones.
