U.S. fresh produce e-commerce company Instacart will add OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot technology to its grocery delivery app in a bid to boost customer service, marketing and other automated tasks, according to the Wall Street Journal.

On Wednesday, Instacart said it would use the chatbot in a new search engine designed to answer users’ food-related questions, such as questions about recipes, ingredients or healthy eating.

According to reports, through ChatGPT’s language software, the search engine’s answers will be presented in a conversational manner, not just a list of search engine results. The new feature, called “Ask Instacart,” is expected to roll out later this year, the company said.

In addition, Instacart told employees earlier this week that the company’s total sales on the platform last year were 29 billion U.S. dollars (currently about 199.23 billion CNY), an increase of about 16% year-on-year; the company’s fourth Net profit was achieved in the fiscal quarter, with adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization exceeding US$100 million (currently about 687 million CNY).
