Pimoroni’s Inky Frame 4.0 inches is a small, low-power e-paper display with a limited color palette, five buttons for control, and a microSD slot for storage And the Raspberry Pi Pico W development board at the heart of the system.

The Inky Frame 4.0″ is designed to be used as a monitor for digital photo frames, digital signage or home automation systems or other applications, and can also be used for other DIY applications with screen limitations.

The Inky Frame 4.0-inch product features a 4.01-inch, 640 x 400-pixel screen with an E Ink Gallery Pallette 4000 electronic paper display featuring E Ink’s Advanced Color ePaper (ACeP) color technology. This means it is capable of displaying 7 colors: black, white, red, green, blue, yellow and orange.

But these monitors are designed to show still images, not full-motion images. It takes approximately 30 seconds to refresh the screen content.

The upside is that since the display only consumes power when it refreshes the screen, and since the rest of the components also consume very little power, you can expect weeks or months of battery-only power.

The Inky Frame 4.0-inch product is priced at £70 (currently about 580 RMB), or users can pay £79 (currently about 655 RMB) to purchase the Inky Frame + accessory kit, which includes 16GB microSD card, battery pack, micro USB cable, and Velcro square to mount the battery pack.

Both the Inky Frame-only and Inky Frame + accessory kits come with two metal legs to support the display, while the Raspberry Pi Pico W board comes pre-soldered in place, so there’s no need to buy it separately.

Pimoroni also previously launched a 5.7-inch model display product, priced at 90 pounds (currently about 746 RMB).
