Increased pixel density makes Samsung Galaxy Fold4’s under-screen camera less conspicuous

One of the main changes brought about by last year’s Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 was the under-display selfie camera, and Samsung aims to improve it even further with the Fold4. A Twitter alert that has since been deleted shows a slide from an official presentation outlining the advancements in the field.

The new approach is to use scattered sub-pixels to increase the resolution of the above screen by about 40%, and the pixel density will increase from 94 ppi to 132 ppi.

This would allow making the off-screen selfie camera less visible when there is an image or text displayed. It’s unclear whether this will have an impact on image quality, but in any case, the camera is designed primarily for video calls.

The previous official Samsung Galaxy Fold4 product poster under-display camera can still be clearly perceived, so we’ll need to find out how it performs when it’s officially released on August 10.
