The metaverse, which became popular last year, has received widespread attention from the capital market and technology giants. Apple, Samsung and others are investing heavily in the metaverse to carry out research and development of related technologies and products, and Facebook, which frequently moves in the metaverse, has changed its company name to Meta, according to the metaverse.

Although there are no widely recognized products in the metaverse, the technology giants have applied for a large number of patents related to the metaverse, according to data from consulting firms.

According to a Spanish consulting firm, in the past five years, the number of metaverse-related patents filed worldwide has doubled to more than 2,000, and Microsoft and Samsung currently have 158 and 122 metaverse-related patents, respectively, making them the 1st and 2nd largest companies in terms of metaverse-related technology patents.

Microsoft and Samsung are second only in terms of the number of metaverse-related patents, and Magic Leap, which caught fire in 2015 with a video of a whale leaping out of a basketball court, is followed by IBM, Disney, Meta, Adobe, Verizon, Intel and Snap.

As far as the data given by the consulting agency is concerned, Meta, which acts in a high-profile manner in the metaverse, only ranks 6th in the number of patents, which is really surprising.

Meta-universe is a virtual world based on VR, AR and other technologies. The patents related to meta-universe applied by the tech giants are also mainly focused on VR, AR, 3D projection, hologram and neural network model.
