Imagination Technologies announced that the company has been upgraded to a senior member of RISC-V International and will continue to work on promoting the development of the RISC-V ecosystem. Shreyas Derashri, Vice President of Computing at Imagination, will join the RISC-V International Board of Directors following his upgrade to Premium Membership.

This year, Imagination released its first commercial RISC-V core, the real-time IMG RTXM-2200 CPU.

Imagination offers a comprehensive range of GPUs, AI accelerators and CPU cores to help the market transition to heterogeneous system-on-chips (SoCs). The recently announced Catapult CPU family extends the RISC-V ecosystem and is purpose-built to enable various market applications. All Imagination GPUs are compatible with RISC-V SoCs, giving customers full control over their heterogeneous designs.

With this membership upgrade, Imagination will bring key knowledge and technologies in the field of heterogeneous computing and IP to the community, ultimately providing chip designers with more choices and helping to open up the future of RISC-V.

Imagination is a UK-based company that creates semiconductor and software intellectual property (IP). The company’s graphics processing unit (GPU), central processing unit (CPU), and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies enable superior PPA (power, performance, and area) metrics, fast time-to-market, and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). Products based on Imagination IP are used by billions of people around the world in their mobile phones, cars, homes and workplaces.

RISC-V International is a non-profit organization that manages the open standard RISC-V instruction set architecture (ISA), related specifications and interested party communities. RISC-V members, now more than 3180 in 70 countries, work together to contribute to the development of the RISC-V open specification and convene and manage related technical, industry, domain and alliance groups. RISC-V combines a modular technology approach with an open, free licensing model so anyone, anywhere can benefit from RISC-V contributions and the intellectual property generated. RISC-V enables the community to collectively invest in technology, drive future strategies, create faster, enjoy unprecedented design freedom, and dramatically reduce the cost of innovation.
