The Chinese tech giant, Huawei, unveils yet another midrange device for their target markets, the Huawei Nova Y61. The announcement of this device’s availability was made public via the company’s official website, with no prior launch teaser or promotion. Despite having a quiet launch just before the much anticipated Huawei Pocket S the manufacturer does well find a sweet spot with the specifications and features of their new device.

While focusing on making this new device affordable, Huawei did not cut any corners with its specifications. With a massive battery capacity, fast charging, a great camera setup, and a beautiful device, the new Nova Y61 will appeal to certain buyers. Let us now take a look at what Huawei’s new budget-level device brings to the table with its specifications:

  • Screen: 6.52-inch LCD HD+ screen with 60Hz refresh rate.
  • Processor: Octa-core 4G processor of a brand Huawei fails to mention.
  • Storage: 4GB/64GBstorage option for the global market and 6GB/64GB storage option for the Asia Pacific region.
  • Main Camera: Triple setup with a 50MP wide camera, a secondary macro camera, and a depth sensor.
  • Front Camera: 5MP front-facing camera.
  • Battery: 5000mAh battery with 22.5W fast charge (with Huawei Super Charge).
  • Operating System: EMUI 12, running on Android 12.
  • Biometrics: Side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

As we know, restrictions and sanctions keep Google mobile service away from Huawei devices, but the company has done a good job of adapting. Its EMUI 12 software on this device draws from the features and abilities of the HarmonyOS software for its design and usability. Huawei also boasts of its photography modes that are said to bring life to images taken on the Nova Y61, to confirm how well these modes work one will need to use the device. Despite the claims, one should not bank on the photography ability of this device due to its processor limitations, which make it a more affordable device.

Huawei Nova Y61 price and availability

This device will not be available in all regions, as it will be more popular in regions like Asia and certain parts of Africa. The 4GB RAM option will be available in more regions than the 6GB option, which will limit itself to the Asia Pacific. Sapphire Blue, Mint Green, and Midnight Black are the colour options one gets while buying this device. Its retail price is still unavailable as Huawei is yet to update its website to contain the pricing of this new device, but we don’t expect it to retail for more than $300.
