Honda launched its battery exchange station for electric bicycles, with the company this 2021 launch of the exchange battery pack (Mobile Power Pack) use, allowing electric bike users to quickly replace the battery, without waiting for the electric bike battery’s extremely slow charging process.

The first HPPEe: station, called HPPEe:, will be used by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to promote the popularity of e-bikes in the city. The swap station is very simple to use; users have a chip card that they use to communicate contactless with the station, and after swiping their card they can insert their old battery into one empty battery slot and then remove a fully charged battery from the other slot. The battery slots are all angled to help users insert and remove them easily and quickly. In addition, the old battery inserted into the station will automatically start charging without the user having to do anything.

On the operator side, Honda says the management of all important functions will be handled by Honda Power Components Cloud. The system will manage important matters such as battery charging status, battery location, user registration and payment. In addition, the exchange station integrates battery cooling to help avoid damage to battery cells due to overheating.

Honda HPPEe: Swap Station is currently planned to be launched only in Japan and India, and that Honda may also launch such stations in other markets, but the company has not announced those plans yet
