Gurman: Apple iPhone 15 “Ultra” will replace “Pro Max” next year with a USB-C port design

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said today that Apple is preparing to replace its “Pro Max” model with a new iPhone 15 “Ultra” model next year.

Apple iPhone 15 Series

In its latest Power On newsletter, Gurman writes that for the iPhone 15 series, Apple is planning to bring an improved USB-C design and possibly change the name. According to Gurman, Apple is expected to adopt “Ultra” instead of the “Pro Max” branding used since the iPhone 11 series.

"Based on Apple's current model, we can expect an improved design for the iPhone next year that coincides with a shift to USB-C and the potential for a new Ultra model to replace the Pro Max."

Apple is expected to use the “Ultra” branding on its highest-end iPhone. Most notably, the most rugged, durable, and powerful Apple Watch to date is named Apple Watch Ultra, and the most powerful Apple Silicon chip to date is the M1 Ultra.

Given that iPhone 15 is still a year away, details are still scarce, but it is widely expected that Apple will move to USB-C ports on next year’s iPhone. The iPhone 15 series will be available in all four models.
