Google’s parent company Alphabet’s CEO Sundar Pichai X platform (formerly Twitter) announced that Google is working with HP to produce Chromebooks in India.
Sundar Pichai said that this is the first batch of Chromebooks to be made in India and will make affordable and secure computing more accessible to Indian students.
According to an HP press release, the partnership will advance a shared vision to support India’s digital education ecosystem and help more students improve their learning by providing affordable, secure and high-quality computing devices to education authorities, schools and institutions.
The Chromebook devices will be manufactured at the Flex factory near Chennai, India, where HP has been producing a range of laptops and desktops since August 2020, The production of HP India Chromebooks will begin on October 2, 2023, and will cater to the demand for budget PCs.
Make in India has really come a long way under the ‘Make in India’ development program. According to a new report published by market research firm Counterpoint Research, over 2 billion phones have been manufactured in the country during the period 2014-2022 under the Make in India development program, at a compound annual growth rate of 23%.
