Google to introduce double-click to close tabs feature for Chrome

I’m sure most people who spend a lot of time in front of their computers have a bunch of handy keyboard shortcuts, such as Ctrl + W to close the currently active tab/tab in Chrome for Windows. Of course, you can also press the middle mouse button on the tab that needs to be closed.

But now, there’s evidence that Google is about to introduce a new shortcut that will allow you to close a tab with a double mouse click.

@Leopeva64 shared that he found a shortcut in Chromium Gerrit that allows users to close tabs with a simple double-click, which is not common in Chrome, and it could even be argued that Chrome is following in the footsteps of Microsoft Edge.

At the end of 2020, a user requested that Microsoft add this feature to Edge, but it wasn’t added to Edge until 113 weeks after the request remained on its to-do list, or eight months ago.

Of course, you can now install a similar Chrome extension that also closes tabs with a “double-click,” and you can even choose to double-right-click, double-middle-click, or left-click three times to do so, so if you want to double-click to close tabs but don’t want to install a plug-in, then hopefully this new Chrome feature will help. If you want to double-click to close tabs but don’t want to install plug-ins, then hopefully this new Chrome feature will help you.
