Google Drive has a hidden limit: 30TB subscription plans are also limited

Some Google Drive users have encountered a hidden limit on the number of file items (including files, folders, and shortcuts) stored in their accounts to a maximum of 5 million items.

If this limit is exceeded, a pop-up will appear: “Error 403: This account has exceeded the creation limit of 5 million items. To create more items, move the items to the Trash and delete them permanently.”

Google has not officially announced this limit, and the official documentation does not list the corresponding instructions. The limit applies to all Google Drive users, even the highest level of subscription users.

Google spokesman then responded to foreign technology media ArsTechnica, translation as follows:

"A 5 million content limit is a safeguard we set to avoid affecting system stability, improve stability, and reduce abuse."

For most computer users, it may never reach 5 million items during the use cycle. However, if small documents are stored frequently, this limit may be triggered sooner.

There are 3 subscription options for Google One users:

  • 10TB plan for $49.99 per month (currently about RMB 343)
  • 20TB plan for $99.99 per month (currently about RMB 687)
  • 30TB plan for $149.99 per month (currently about RMB 1,030)
