Galaxy S22 or Pixel 6 may be affected by the newly discovered zero-day vulnerability

The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Google Pixel 6 are undoubtedly among the best smartphones one can buy. However, these devices are not without their drawbacks, and we are talking about issues related to vulnerabilities that have the potential to harm your phone in more ways than you can imagine. That’s because the latest research has found that the Galaxy S22, Pixel 6, and all Android and other devices running the Linux kernel v5.10 are prone to zero-day vulnerabilities.

Zhenpheng Lin, a PhD student at Northwestern University who focuses on Linux kernel security, has discovered a new vulnerability in the Galaxy S22 and Pixel 6 phones.

This is a zero-day vulnerability in the kernel that could also crack the Google Pixel 6 and Galaxy S22. However, it could also happen in the Pixel 6 Pro, as well as any kernel v5.10-based device.
With the latest exploit, an attacker could gain read and write access to implement the ability to disable SELinux, so theoretically, if your Galaxy S22 or Google Pixel 6 were to come under such an attack, the hacker would have the option to compromise the operating system, as well as the device’s built-in security permissions.

Lin also mentioned that the vulnerability is not limited to cell phones, as the general Linux kernel is also affected by the same. He also pointed out that Android devices with security updates in July are also vulnerable to this vulnerability.

Researchers are learning about the program that reported the vulnerability to Google and then waiting for a fix, which will take several months to resolve. In the meantime, all Galaxy S22 and Pixel 6 users, as well as Android users in general, are advised not to install any apps you don’t trust from the Play Store, and sideloading apps should be even more so.
