FydeOS is an operating system based on the Chromium OS open source project, which does not require Google services, can create a local account login, comes with a full desktop version of the Chromium browser, and is compatible with Android programs and Linux programs with GUI through container technology.
FydeOS v16.1 was released on April 28, according to the official microsignal of Fusilon Innovations, bringing features such as a new interface, virtual desktop management and a modern “terminal” program.
“In desktop mode, click the “circle” in the bottom left corner to open a new application drawer; support for enabling system-level dark mode; system notification style has also been adjusted and redesigned for a more unified visual experience.”
FydeOS v16 provides virtual desktop control and management capabilities, “users can save all applications and browser open tabs of the current desktop, and can return to the previously saved work state with one click. In addition, all programs and browser tabs on the current desktop can be closed with a single click.”
This update of FydeOS brings a standalone and configurable “Terminal” system program, which can be used on both the main crosh command line and the Debian environment of the Linux subsystem. The system ships with web applications (SWAs) that bring deeper optimizations and performance improvements.”
According to FydeOS, FydeOS v16.1 is a maintenance release of FydeOS v16. the official changelog as follows:
- Added the “Backup” feature in FydeOS settings: you can restore backup files in the system OOBE interface as well as in the “Add New User” interface. Please note that this feature is still in Beta stage, there are some known limitations and possible problems, please check the feature description document on the official website for details.
- Added the newly created “True Text Rhyme Input Method”, which brings the following experience:
- Improved the loading time of the input method engine
- Wrapping the RIME engine with WebAssembly technology to decouple the input method itself from the system and make it upgradable
- Support multiple popular input solutions with one click to download and switch
- Provide a system-level prompt when pressing the left Shift key to switch between Chinese and English input states
- Optimize the design of the word selection UI of the input method.
- Optimized the input experience of the on-screen keyboard in tablet mode.
- Added support for Steam client under Borealis virtual machine, please refer to the documentation of this feature for details.
- Fix the problem that some USB wifi cards are not adapted in the previous version.
- Fixed the issue that the system prompts for a USB device that does not exist after startup.
- Fixed the problem of the default size of the browser window in “Guest Mode”.
- Fix the problem that the frame rate of the built-in “screen recording” function is very low when recording video.
- Fixed the problem that the Android subsystem might be extremely unstable.
- Other stability and performance improvements.
