Fusionflight Launches Ultra-Lightweight 8kW Turbine Generator: Weighs Less Than 9kg

Fusionflight, the drone manufacturer, has just released a turbine generator “out of the box”. It’s the most compact on the market today, with 8 kW of output power. As the picture shows, you can carry it around like a toolbox, weighing less than 1/10th of a gasoline generator of the same size, thus eliminating the need for wheels to carry it.

The company is said to be best known for its JetQuad drones — featuring vectored jet turbine engines that propel VTOL drones to maneuver as fast as quadcopters.

The performance is also impressive compared to electric quadcopters — with a theoretical top speed of over 400 mph (644 km/h), much like Mayman Aerospace’s turbine-powered Speeder flying motorcycle.

This amazingly small powerplant can run on diesel, kerosene or jet fuel when mixed with 5% turbine oil.

Now, Fusionflight has built on this technology to create an ultra-portable generator with a power meter of up to 8 kW – the ARC Portable Generator.

If you’re willing to put up with the deafening noise, this 17 x 27 x 52 CM (6.7 x 10.6 x 20.5 inches) micro-turbine generator weighing less than 9 kg (19.8 pounds) is quite powerful.

For reference, the Gensafe GF8000 is a 459 cc gasoline generator, weighing 107 kg (236 lbs) and with a built-in inverter – the ARC Portable Generator requires a separate purchase.

Officials claim it can provide a powerful, lightweight experience away from the home grid, and can be used as a range extender for small electric aircraft/drones, or electric cars.

If you need more power, you can also find ways to stack multiple ARC Portable Generators and use them together.

Finally, Fusionflight does not give exact noise figures. For reference, the JetCat P80 turbine has a value of around 116.5 dB.

But as a turbine that spins at 130,000 RPM, you obviously can’t put the ARC Portable Generator in a place where it needs to be kept quiet.
