Flighty is a popular flight tracking application on the Apple App Store. In recent version updates, Flighty has made full use of the Live Activities feature provided by iOS 16 and iPhone 14 Pro models, allowing the iPhone to track flight dynamics while in flight.
In this update, Flighty can use the free Wi-Fi provided on the plane to download real and real-time data, so that you can view it even if your iPhone is in flight mode, and you don’t have to provide information on the plane. Pay for premium Wi-Fi service.
Flighty’s Ryan Jones explained that the free Wi-Fi on most US airlines allows for free iMessage. The Live Activities feature in iOS 16.1 was updated using the same protocol as iMessage. As a result, Flighty can use the free Wi-Fi available on board to update real-time flight updates. This data can then also be passed to the full Flighty application.
Through the new Live Activities API, Apple can set notifications to display custom content and automatic updates, such as dynamically checking game scores, taxi trips, etc., and can also control music playback and display album pictures in full screen.
