Dell announces discontinuation of service for two Mobile Connect apps

0

If you use Dell Mobile Connect or Alienware Mobile Connect for connecting iPhone and Android phones to Dell devices, then here’s the bad news. According to the official support documentation released today, both apps will be removed from download links in the U.S. on November 30 of this year and support will cease on January 31, 2023.

This mainstream solution is currently pre-installed on Bluetooth-enabled Inspiron, Vostro, G-Series, Alienware, and consumer XPS devices running Windows 10. The app requires a Windows 10/11 device to work properly.

Unlike Microsoft’s Phone Link, both apps are primarily implemented via Bluetooth and WiFi, so users can connect their iPhones to Dell systems as well to read text messages, photos and even share your iPhone screen on your PC.

Dell currently recommends that users uninstall DELL Mobile Connect or Alienware Mobile Connect to free up more storage space. Support will cease in the U.S. on January 31, 2023, and in some countries and regions as early as November 30 of this year. These two apps will no longer be pre-installed on the new XPS 13 Plus.

Dell has not provided an official explanation for the discontinuation of support. Dell Mobile Connect was created by Screenonvate, a company Intel acquired for $150 million in 2021, and the app recently started running on Intel Evo devices.
