Delivery of the world’s first electric material truck with a payload of 80 tons

Commercial vehicle manufacturer Scania AB has delivered its first electric material carrier to SCA, which has the largest number of private forests in Europe, electrek reports. The vehicle has a huge payload of 80 tons, which Scania says is a world first.

Scania is a commercial vehicle manufacturer based in Södertälje, Sweden, founded more than 110 years ago. It is a subsidiary of the Trauton Group, which itself is a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. Although the company was founded early, it has only recently entered the commercial electric vehicle segment.

It previously launched regional long-haul electric trucks, which will be available in Europe as rigid trucks and tractor trailers. Later, Scania partnered with SCA to develop a zero-emission transport vehicle on its timber hauling routes. The electric timber transport truck has now been delivered to SCA in Sweden. This summer, SCA will conduct transport tests in which they will collect data on energy consumption, productivity and transport costs compared to existing vehicles, comparing them to conventional diesel-powered haulers.

Techgoing has learned that electrek says the electric timber truck can transport 64 tons of cargo on public roads and 80 tons on private roads, and will help SCA reduce its carbon emissions by about 55,000 kilograms per year.
