Crucial officially announced that its first PCIe Gen5 SSD is coming soon.
According to reports, Crucial’s new products will use the latest 232-layer 3D NAND of parent company Micron Technology, and will also cooperate with Phison, AMD, Intel and motherboard manufacturers to further improve the PCIe Gen5 ecosystem.
Currently only Intel 12th generation Alder Lake series processors, 13th generation Raptor Lake series processors and AMD Ryzen 7000 series Zen 4 CPUs with corresponding motherboards can support PCIe 5.
Officially stated:
The new products will have the fastest data transfer speed – Gen5 SSD is 1 time faster than Gen4
Take advantage of new technologies like DirectStorage, which effectively boosts gaming performance when paired with DDR5 and high-performance graphics cards.
Maintain backward compatibility with Gen3 and Gen4 hardware
