According to Road to VR news, Canon recently launched VR social platform Kokomo by Canon, supports Meta Quest 2 headset display device, has been on the U.S. Google Play shelves.

The company’s first step into the consumer market is the launch of Kokomo.

Road to VR points out that compared to Magic Leap, which projects an entire digital light field directly onto the retina to produce a cinematic reality, Kokomo is more concerned with using its social attributes to present the user’s virtual image by making reasonable use of the user’s cell phone lens.

Road to VR further explains that users only need VR devices and cell phones to enjoy the immersive video calling experience provided by the Kokomo App, which captures the user’s full-body 3D image to make the interaction between the two parties more realistic and provides Mirror mode to share files, photos and other data from the caller’s cell phone in real-time.

It is learned from Canon’s public information that Canon’s current virtual reality devices are mainly focused on enterprise applications. Previously Canon had shown the latest Mreal MR X1 3D head-mounted display at CES 2023, priced at 3.5 million yen.
