Blizzard has canceled “World of Warcraft” MMORPG large handheld development

Blizzard and NetEase have canceled an unannounced “World of Warcraft” MMORPG mega handheld game due to a financial dispute, Bloomberg reported.

The handheld game would reportedly have been a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the same universe as the World of Warcraft endgame, codenamed Neptune, and planned as a spin-off of Blizzard’s long-running PC game for a different time period.

The game had been in development for three years, with a team of more than 100 NetEase developers working on the project before it was canceled, people familiar with the matter said. The two companies later disagreed on the terms and eventually asked to stop the project.

A NetEase spokesperson declined to comment to Bloomberg, and an Activision Blizzard spokesperson did not comment.

However, Blizzard in May of this year disclosed its Warcraft universe worldview of handheld works “Warcraft Arclight Rumble (Warcraft Arc Light Battle)”, positioned as a strategy action game, and end-game gameplay is very different, including PVP and PVE play, will contain more than 65 from the “Warcraft” universe of well-known characters. The launch time has not yet been announced.
