Bard use ChatGPT data for training? Google denies

Google has debunked a new report claiming that a former Google employee said that Google’s new chatbot Bard used data from rival ChatGPT.

Bard, which just launched in public beta last week, is also a competitor to Microsoft’s Bing Chat, which has a license to use OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology. However, according to The Information, former Google AI researcher Jacob Devlin recently left the company, but not before he allegedly warned Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai that Bard was getting data from ChatGPT in an indirect way.

Specifically, Devlin said that Bard’s development team accessed a website called ShareGPT, which posted a large number of users’ ChatGPT chats for everyone to see. However, Google spokesman Chris Pappas quickly issued a statement to TheVerge, making it clear that “Bard did not use any data from ShareGPT or ChatGPT for training.”

The Information report also claims that Google’s Brain artificial intelligence team is working with DeepMind, another AI company affiliated with Alphabet, and that the two teams are reportedly working together on a new project code-named Gemini, according to unnamed sources. The goal of the project is to develop a product that can compete with OpenAI. The report seems to suggest that Google wants a chatbot to top Bard if it fails.
