ASUS IoT partners with Canonical to provide Ubuntu validation for IoT applications

ASUS IoT, a global provider of AIoT solutions, announced today that it has partnered with Canonical to pre-install a proven Ubuntu distribution for embedded boards and systems in diverse edge computing applications. Canonical will guarantee that new ASUS IoT devices such as PE100A will perform optimally on Ubuntu Linux to reduce development time, configuration process and installation steps.

The collaboration between ASUS IoT and Canonical not only ensures that the various hardware I/O functions meet industrial-grade standards, but also that the device is running a certified version of Ubuntu. In addition, it provides up to 10 years of Linux security (and 5 years of ESM bundled services) and newer features for users in industrial manufacturing, smart retail, smart transportation, surveillance, and many other application areas.

The PE100A is a palm-sized edge computer optimized for TCO (total cost of ownership) and is the first NXP i.MX8 device certified by Canonical for use in Ubuntu 20.04. It is supported by auxiliary I/O boards for additional functionality and the i.MX 8M System-on-Chip (SoC) provides efficient performance with low power consumption.

With Canonical’s certification, the PE100A comes pre-installed with an Ubuntu image, allowing customers to focus on application and software development. They can choose between Ubuntu Core 20 or Ubuntu Server 20.04 at the time of purchase.
