According to a list recently announced by the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office, Apple has obtained a patent for a charging system that can modularize removable batteries to make the device more flexible for various usage scenarios.

The full name of the patent is “Battery charging system and mobile and accessory devices”. Apple designs removable batteries for its Mac, Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, iPhone, etc. Users only need to replace the battery Modules can meet the flexible use needs of the equipment.

In the patent, Apple outlines modular removable batteries with different specifications such as A, B, C, and D. According to Apple’s patented cell part, a conventional rechargeable battery is used, but the outer layer is equipped with a dedicated interface and uses standardized connections. .

The patent also describes a wireless communication system between the battery and a charging station or console that can monitor and display battery power while enabling wireless charging, similar to how the AirPods battery is displayed in the control center.

In patent law terms, it appears that a universal battery standard would not only power a device, but also provide a Mac or other “host” with the information needed to check battery status. This could be similar to how an iPhone displays the battery level of its AirPods or AirTags, and would apply to any device using such a battery system.
