Apple’s new-gen AirPods Pro: built-in H2 chip, double noise cancellation

Apple unveiled the next generation of AirPods Pro true wireless earbuds at its “Far out” event early this morning, with more advanced features. The new H2 chip supports high-bandwidth connectivity for “superior sound quality,” Spatial Audio capabilities have been further expanded, and the new drivers bring more detail and a more differentiated triad of frequencies.

Users can now use the camera on the iPhone to create personalized spatial audio profiles.

The H2 chip has a new active noise cancellation feature with “advanced computational audio”, an adaptive pass-through mode, and a system that can process up to 48,000 times per second, doubling the amount of noise cancellation.

New larger/smaller earbuds have been added to fit more consumers. Each AirPods headset can also play a separate piece of audio, and U1 technology has been introduced to use Find My to find exactly where the headphones are. There is a new lanyard loop on the side of the charging case for lanyards.

The new generation AirPods Pro allows for 6 hours of listening on a single charge, a 33% increase over the original AirPods Pro, and the charging case allows for 30 hours of listening time, an increase of 6 hours over the original.

While still charging via Lightning, the next-generation AirPods Pro can now be used with Apple Watch chargers, MagSafe or any Qi wireless charger.

The new AirPods Pro will be available on September 23rd and is available for pre-order now for $249.
