Apple’s M2 Mac mini gets a big performance upgrade over the M1 and Intel models

0

Apple’s Mac mini products have finally been upgraded, with the processor upgraded from M1 to M2 and M2 Pro, and the top specification reaching 12-core CPU + 19-core GPU, directly ahead of the base Mac Studio (10-core CPU + 24-core GPU).

On its website, Apple lists the performance of the M2 Mac mini compared to older models.

First, in the photo processor test, Apple uses the Intel i7 version of the Mac mini, which was released years ago, as a benchmark, and the M2 and M2 Pro versions of the Mac mini deliver 3.5 and 4.7 times the performance, respectively. In the charts, the M1 Mac mini underperforms the 27-inch i7 + Radeon Pro 5500 XT iMac, but the M2 Mac mini surpasses it and the M2 Pro comes out ahead.

In Excel software tests, the M2 and M2 Pro versions of the Mac mini show a smaller improvement over the previous M1 model and nearly double the improvement over the i7 Mac mini.

In Apple’s own Final Cut Pro software, the M2 and M2 Pro versions of Mac mini, with their new neural network engine and media engine, are much better than their predecessors and 18.8 times better than the i7 version.

Overall, the 8-core CPU + 10-core GPU M2 Mac mini is a regular upgrade from the M1 model, and at RMB 4,499 for 8+256GB, it’s a great choice for video and light office use. The 12-core CPU + 19 GPU M2 Pro Mac mini is a much better performer, starting at RMB 12,249 for photo and video editing.
