Apple will include a color-coded MagSafe charging cable with the new MacBook Pro

Apple officially launched the new generation of MacBook Pro 14 and 16-inch models starting at RMB 15,999.

The new MacBook Pro models come with a number of notable changes, such as the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, up to 96GB of memory, and HDMI and Wi-Fi 6E. On top of that, the 2023 Apple MacBook Pro comes with an unbelievable little detail – the MagSafe charging cable.

Apple actually eliminated the MagSafe charging port on MacBooks until 2016, when it switched to a USB-C port. But Apple brought back the MagSafe magnetic charging port when it introduced the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro series in 2021.

But Apple left out one detail: No matter which MacBook Pro you choose, there’s only one white MagSafe charging cable. It wasn’t a big deal, but it was unattractive and went against the grain, and for a while it caused users to complain.

However, Apple addressed this issue last year with the release of the M2 MacBook Air and provided users with a MagSafe charging cable that matched the color of the computer.

With the arrival of the 2023 MacBook Pro today, Apple is also offering a MagSafe charging cable in the same color as the MacBook Pro line. So if you choose to buy a dark sky gray MacBook Pro, you’ll get a dark sky gray cable. And if you buy the silver version, you’ll get a silver cable.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro will be available for order at 9 a.m. on January 19 and on February 3.

Apple’s official website offers three baseline configuration options for the new 14-inch MacBook Pro.

  • M2 Pro (10-core CPU, 16-core GPU) with 16GB unified memory + 512GB solid-state drive for RMB 15,999
  • M2 Pro (12-core CPU, 19-core GPU), 16GB unified memory + 1TB solid-state drive RMB 19,999
  • M2 Max (12-core CPU, 30-core GPU), 32GB unified memory + 1TB solid state drive RMB 24,999

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is also available in three benchmark configuration options.

  • M2 Pro (12-core CPU, 19-core GPU) 16GB unified memory + 512GB solid-state drive RMB 19,999
  • M2 Pro (12-core CPU, 19-core GPU) with 16GB unified memory + 1TB solid state drive RMB 21,499
  • M2 Max (12-core CPU, 38-core GPU), 32GB unified memory + 1TB solid-state drive RMB 27,499

The 14-inch MacBook Pro is available with either a 67W or 96W USB-C power adapter; the 16-inch MacBook Pro comes standard with a 140W USB-C power adapter.
