Apple Vision Pro headset accessibility features: multiple interaction options

0

Apple’s Vision Pro headset can be controlled through the eyes and gestures. However, for users with special needs, Vision Pro also provides other interaction methods, such as VoiceOver (screen reader), Pointer Control (pointer control) and Dwell Control (dwell control). At the WWDC conference for developers, Apple provided more details about these features.

Pointer Control is a way to control Vision Pro based on head, wrist or index finger position, rather than through eye tracking, allowing users to adjust movement sensitivity to suit their needs.

VoiceOver, Apple’s on-screen read-aloud feature that reads content on the screen for the user, is also supported on Vision Pro, and users can set a VoiceOver shortcut in the settings to activate or deactivate the feature by pressing the numbered crown three times.

Dwell Control is a way to provide tap, scroll, long press and drag options on the screen, allowing users to interact with the interface without using their hands.

In addition, Vision Pro has a Guided Access accessibility feature that allows users to focus on one application without being distracted by other applications or interface elements. Apple says the feature is designed to minimize distractions by processing other apps in the background, removing non-essential UI elements and suppressing potentially distracting hardware buttons.

Vision Pro is expected to be available in the U.S. in early 2024 for $3,499 (currently about RMB 24,913).
