Apple to mass produce MR headset in early 2023

A new report suggests that Apple could begin production of its mixed reality (MR) headset as early as March 2023, with an official announcement likely next month. In May, reports emerged that Apple had shown its board members its upcoming mixed reality headset.

Now, a report from the Taiwanese electronics industry publication DigiTimes suggests that the device will go into production in the first quarter of 2023. The device could be unveiled as early as April of the same year.

The first batch is expected to be limited, with a rough estimate of about 700,000 units for the year. Hershey United Technologies will reportedly be the exclusive partner for final assembly.

Its production date is in line with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s previous predicted timeline when he said he believed Apple could launch the device between January and the second quarter of 2023.

Kuo also believes the headset will be able to seamlessly switch between augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences, but the price is expected to be very expensive.
