Apple today launched a new 5E135 firmware for AirPods 2, AirPods 3, first-generation AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Max wireless Earphones, which is higher than the 5E133 firmware released in April this year. First-generation AirPods have firmware 6.8.8.

Apple wouldn’t immediately provide release notes on what’s included in the updated firmware for the AirPods, but the company does maintain a support document with release information, and the updates show mostly bug fixes and other improvements.

In terms of upgrades, users can install AirPods wirelessly via OTA when they are connected to an iOS device. Putting the AirPods in the charging case, connecting them to a power source, and then pairing the AirPods with an iPhone or iPad should force an update after a short time.

Attached are the steps to check the firmware upgrade of AirPods or AirPods Pro:

Connect your AirPods or AirPods Pro to your iOS device.

 Open the Settings app.

 Click General.

 Click About.

 Tap AirPods.

Look at the version number next to "Firmware Version."
