Apple has rejected an update to its “Broadcasts” app, a 2-year-old application that provides Internet radio and live streaming, citing “similarity in name. Broadcasts is a 2-year-old application that provides Internet radio and live streaming.

Steve Troughton-Smith, the developer of the app, recently submitted a regular update to the Mac App Store for the app “Broadcasts,” but to his surprise, he received an “ITMS-90129. ITMS-90129” rejection.

The code means that the app is using the name of a bundle or display name that has been taken, mainly if the submitted app is similar to Apple’s official app name.

The “Broadcasts” app has been available on the Mac App Store for more than 2 years, and is primarily useful for listening to a variety of Internet radio stations, but also offers podcasts from platforms like Relay.fm.

Steve Troughton-Smith shared with us that the whole thing may have been a mistake, but in the meantime, he has resubmitted the app for review.

Update: Apple has approved the resubmitted update to the Broadcasts app. However, Apple did not provide any other reasoning behind the initial rejection or subsequent approval.
