Apple plans to hold iPhone 14, Apple Watch launch on September 7

Apple plans to hold its first fall launch event on Wednesday, Sept. 7, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The event will focus on the iPhone 14 models and Apple Watch Series 8. The standard iPhone 14 models are not expected to change much, but the iPhone 14 Pro models will include updated camera technology, the elimination of bangs, a switch to pill-shaped and circular punchouts, the latest A16 chip and more.

Apple plans to release four iPhone 14 models, including the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. Notably, there will not be a 5.4-inch iPhone mini, as the smaller iPhone 12 and 13 mini devices have not sold as well as expected before.

There are three Apple Watch models being readied for release, including the new Apple Watch Series 8, an updated Apple Watch SE, and a new Pro version of the Apple Watch that is expected to feature a larger body, updated design, and a more rugged construction.

Apple is also likely to introduce a new low-cost iPad, an updated iPad Pro model, and a Mac Pro with an Apple Silicon chip later this year, but those devices will likely be saved for a second event in October.

If Apple does move forward with a Sept. 7 event, we can expect the press to receive an official invitation about a week ago, perhaps by the end of August. Apple is already preparing advance footage indicating it will again be online rather than in person, but there will likely be in-person sessions with some members of the press invited primarily.

Apple has told some retail employees to prepare for new product shipments on Friday, September 16, suggesting that new iPhone and Apple Watch models could begin shipping on that date.
