According to a list recently published by the United States Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO), Apple has obtained a patent for the Apple Pencil, which not only allows it to support the iPhone, but also does not require charging.

This new patent is titled “Photo-Sensing Enabled Display For Stylus Detection” and indicates that the future Apple Pencil will not require charging or consume power, and users can still write and draw on the screen. , mainly relying on the screen to achieve the corresponding effect.

The patent application relates to an “optical stylus system” that primarily utilizes a screen to determine one or more of target or touch location, center point, hover distance, tilt angle, azimuth angle, and in some cases a stylus direction and rotation.

Apple specifically describes the stylus as passive, meaning it’s basically a stylus that requires no power. Instead, it reflects light back to the iPad or the device it’s used on, and the iPad does all the sensing optically.
