Apple offers a reward of ten million dollars for seeking iOS 16 lockdown mode bugs

0

Last month, Apple unveiled iOS 16 at WWDC 2022 and showcased the newly added Lockdown Mode, which provides additional protection for phones from hacking that can lead to information leakage. Perhaps to further enhance the security of the feature, Apple recently announced that it will put up a $2 million (about RMB 13.51 million) bounty to encourage developers around the world to find vulnerabilities in Lockdown Mode.

The reason why Apple has such confidence in Lockdown Mode, and is even willing to put up a huge bounty like $2 million, has to do with how the mode works.

With Lockdown Mode on, most image attachments and links for text messages will be blocked; any invitations initiated through Apple services will also be disabled.

Also, the Safari browser will disable the Jacascrip instant compilation feature; description files cannot be installed; remote management software cannot be installed, and even any external devices cannot be connected via data cable.

This means that the iPhone in lockdown mode is cut off from most of the data exchange with the outside world and becomes almost an isolated island, thus preventing further deterioration in a short period of time if the user suspects that his iPhone has been implanted with a virus.
