Piper Sandler recently released its semi-annual U.S. youth survey report, and the data showed that Apple’s iPhone is still the most popular among teenagers.

iPhone
A survey of 6,020 teenagers in 47 states in the United States showed that 85% own at least one iPhone and 86% plan to buy an iPhone as their next smartphone.

While the iPhone remains the most popular smartphone among teens, its ownership rate is down from the October 2023 survey, when 87% of teens owned an iPhone and 88% planned to buy one.

The agency stated:

iPhone ownership of 85% and iPhone purchase intention of 86% are both close to all-time highs, though below 2021’s all-time highs.

We believe it is important to increase penetration and purchase intention given the maturity of the high-end smartphone market. Additionally, there are encouraging trends in premium phones as Apple continues to launch new iPhones, proving the overall stickiness of the product portfolio.

Finally, as the number of Apple hardware installations continues to grow, the service industry will also show a positive development trend.

Apple Watch
As for the Apple Watch, 34% of teens reported using it, unchanged from last fall. However, intentions to purchase an Apple Watch rose 3%, with 13% of teens planning to purchase an Apple Watch in the next six months.

Apple Music
Teens prefer Spotify as their music service, with nearly two-thirds of teens surveyed saying Spotify is their service of choice. Just over 30% of teens say they use Apple Music.

Apple TV+
Apple TV+ is not popular among teen audiences, with less than 5% of teens saying they watch Apple TV+ every day. By comparison, more than 30% of teens regularly watch Netflix and nearly 30% watch YouTube.
