Foreign tech media 9to5Mac has created a high-definition rendering of the iPhone 15 Pro based on a CAD model provided by a reliable case accessory maker and invited 3D artist Lan Zelbo to produce it. The renders show some major changes in the design and functionality of Apple’s flagship smartphone.

The CAD files are usually accurate in terms of size and design.

Switching to USB-C ports

One of the most notable changes is the switch from Lightning ports to USB-C. This is likely due to pressure from the European Union, which has been pushing for a universal charging standard for all smartphones and devices.

Apple may still impose MFi verification on the USB-C cable. “Even if the switch to Type-C does not delay the money, the exposure of Apple has been for the iPhone 15 series of self-research MFI interface IC

The edge of the curved design

The glass is slightly curved at the edge, forming a more seamless transition with the middle frame. The center frame itself is also more rounded than before, similar to the design of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro and the new M2 MacBook Air. This makes the phone more comfortable to hold and less likely to be accidentally touched.

A more raised back camera

The camera bump on the back is also thicker than before, suggesting that Apple may have upgraded the camera system with a new sensor or lens. The camera layout is similar to the iPhone 14 Pro, with three lenses and a LiDAR scanner arranged in a square module. The camera lenses are thicker in this generation, possibly suggesting a larger image sensor.

Capacitive buttons

On the side of the phone, we can see some variations of the volume buttons and the mute switch. The volume rocker looks like a capacitive button instead of a physical button. The mute switch also looks redesigned with a smaller and rounder shape, similar to the capacitive buttons.

Narrower bezel

The device’s body is a few millimeters smaller with thinner bezels, so we’ll likely see the same 6.1-inch display in a smaller body. The Lingering Island is still there and looks to be about the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro.
